What is Probability?

April 12, 202610 min readMath

Probability measures the likelihood of an event occurring, expressed as a number between 0 (impossible) and 1 (certain). This guide explains how to calculate probability and apply it to real-world situations.

P(A) = Number of Favorable Outcomes ÷ Total Number of Outcomes

Example: Coin Flip

Probability of heads = 1 (favorable) ÷ 2 (total) = 0.5 or 50%

Independent vs Dependent Events

Independent events don't affect each other. Dependent events do. Multiply probabilities for independent events occurring together.
